Fruit Loop!

August 11th, 2007 · 13 Comments

In case you haven’t been following along, I’m cross posting my knitting both here and at my main site, BigPinkCookie. I just returned from a 2.5 week holiday (that we only wanted to be 10 days long) in Germany. And I finally knit something - one whole sock is done!

Fruit Loop SocksWhen my Mom was staying with us while there house was being worked on, she commented on how I wasn’t knitting. Crazy - not like there is a shortage of yarn in my house! - but I just didn’t seem to have it in me. But I packed yarn and needles when we went to Germany, and while sitting at the Hofbrauhaus in Munich, watching Mike enjoy his mass of beer, I cast on for my Fruit Loop Socks. I finished the first one on the train on the way to the airport to fly home, after working on it in Salzburg, Berchtesgaden, more in Munich, Wurzburg, Rothenberg, and Havert. I immediately cast on for number two while I was still on the train headed towards Amsterdam. I worked on it for most of the flight home, and off and on the rest of this week.

They will have an afterthought heel inserted once I finish the second sock and decide what colors to use for the heel. I’m using my US 000 needles, Magic Loop style. The yarn is Opal Feelings (wowowo Feeeeeeeeeeeeeelings), color #1701. It is made in Germany, but I purchased it in the US from the Knitting Zone. It is 64 stitches around. Plain Vanilla sock, since the yarn obviously needs no competition.

I should note that I purchased no yarn in Germany, even though I had the opportunity at least 2 times. I considered some sock yarn (the new Kaffe Regia yarn), but decided I could buy the same yarn in the US, and put it back down. The dollar is weak, the euro is strong, and my stash is really too big. Until I make more of a dent in it - and get the new lens I need before my fall wedding season begins - a yarn purchase didn’t make sense. Instead, I’ll have the memories knit into my Fruit Loop sock, and I’m perfectly happy with that.

You can find my knits on Ravelry - I’m “Christine” there - and I’m adding them slowly but surely. I created a PointySticks group too, so please join it if you’re interested!

Um - I understand that your spare time is a little bit limited and all. I mean, the blogs and the Twitter and the photography and the son and all that stuff. But have I missed a podcast somewhere? Because see, I really like to listen to them at lunch while I knit, before I have to go back to interacting with a whole bunch of people who don’t get the whole knitting thing. So step it up a little, ok?

You’re really pushing me, too. I am so not the techie geek. RSS? What in the name of all that’s wool does that mean? Hey, I’m still blogless. A) I knit real slow and not every day, unfortunately, so is it fair to have a knitting blog? B) Well, it seems most bloggers either knit all the time have about 8 jobs, mon, so they have like a ton of stuff to ramble on about. Not that you ramble, mind you. C) My daughter has the only decent digital camera in the house and I’m trying to save up for a Nikon D80 and it’s going real slow, and I have to endure her scornful looks when I “borrow” her camera. D) Will anyone really read it?

PS - love your stuff. Even knitting in Texas, where we get to wear sweaters, like, twice a year.

    Hi Christine!

I can’t imagine going to Germany and NOT buying yarn.. We’re going to Australia in March for my brother-in-law’s wedding and I already told my mother-in-law that I want her to take me yarn shopping.. hee.

Anyway.. after getting a new computer, and a new Ipod I decided to download all of the podcasts that I used to listen to and download EVERY EPISODE (which, even on cable takes ages) and then when I got to yours it says that I can’t download episode 8 because it’s a 404.. Could you maybe possibly fix it for me if you get a chance? Pweese!

    Thanks : )

I FINALLY broke down and asked “Santa” for an MP3 player this year for my birthday. After searching and lurking at different knit sites I was ready to take the next step and plug into all things knitty. I just wanted to let you know how EXTREMELY happy I was to find your podcast. I am NOT reading your above post so that I can listen to it “new”. You make work fly by and help me get through it til lunch when I can knit that next row. Thanks!

Hey, where’s your podcast? You’re still posting to your other site, but no knittin news? Have you given up the podcast ghost?

Christine, I have been listening to your podcasts all over again, and just want to tell you that I really miss “our” time together. :-)

Finally figured it out, created a playlist with all your episodes, and keep the playlist on the ipod. That way I can always listen, even though I’ve heard them all before. But, I do admit… wish you’d do another one now and again, just to keep us going!
