Staci and I talk about a variety of issues on this episode, and while I don’t have much knitting to share, I have a lot to say about knitting and the community!
- We went to Austin, Texas and I attended the Saturday night knitfest coordinated by Julia at Hill Country Weavers. Staci & I both attended the Sunday “Meet the Bloggers” event that HCW hosted, and had the chance to meet Rhonda Bell of the Knitting News Cast, Stephen, Harold, and Jenny of the Stash & Burn podcast. We had a great time meeting them and hanging out with the fabulous Austin knitters!
- Staci finished up the Dale of Norway baby knits and her Chevron Scarf, and is now working on the Knitty sweater, making test swatches with Moda Dea wool, and test knitting a crochet purse from Hearthsong. For the record, the Crochet Dude & I could probably be in the same room at the same time - it just has never happened yet!
- Check back here for links to help you jump into the internet community if you haven’t already.
- Yarn Shops mentioned on the show: Hill Country Weavers (Austin, Texas), Yarntopia (Katy, Texas - Houston area), and Twisted Yarns (Spring, Texas - Houston area).
- Upcoming Fiber Fests: DFW Fiber Festival from April 13-15, 2007 and Maryland Sheep and Wool in May, 2007.
- To help support these adventures, to help with the “get a fancy mic” fund, and just because the saying cracks us up to no end, I’ve set up an online store to buy “I can go bat-shit crazy, or I can knit. Your choice.” t-shirts, along with other items - including toddler and baby “Future Knitter” items! Check them out!
- The above photo of “Dancing Lou” will be for sale on the Fresh Photography site soon, with the option to purchase a print and help out Basenji Rescue. I love Lou!

Yeah for Knit Chat!! I hope you get to manage to head up this way! Lemme know if you get to come up to DFW and we can meet up!

Wow, thanks for the shout out, Christine! A great knit chat, complete with a persistant doorbell-ringer, lol. The transition from knitter-to-geek mode moment when the girl asked you about the Koigu cracked me up!

Hey Christine…

The knit chats are cute, but very hard to follow… can you go back to your old format? It sounds like you’re having a good time, but it’s really more of you guys talking to each other than YOU talking to US.

I happen to like listening to the two of you chat and talk about yarn and what you’re knitting (or not knitting, Christine!) I think the dynamic is good and you play off eachother nicely. Thanks to both of you for another enjoyable hour of Pointy Sticks

I’m interested in the links you were going to provide to help those of us without blogs learn the ropes and how to do it. I’ve been toying with the idea for a while but not as “geeky” as you and would be interested in an easy and free way to start
thanks!

Hay so I was listening to you show and heard about your problems with your arm. I work on a microscope by day and knit by night so I know about wrist pain. I have a sheet with lots of excercises on it for just this problem. If you would like I can scan it over to you so you can post it for others who are having the same problem. couple of quick tips. When you arm hurts try squishing some playdough for a few minutes. Also hold a large can in your hand around the round bit and rotate your wrist around it. Let me know if you want some more with pictures.

Oh I’d love a T-shirt like this but I would need a G-Rated version! Let me know if you get something like that.

A fun podcast. I like the chatty less segmented style you & Staci have. I’ve always enjoyed your podcast but this is a nice change. I feel like I’m in the room listening wishing I could talk.
I hope you can make it to the DFW Fiber Fest. I went last year & learned so much that my Mom is coming down from KS to go with me this year. I’d love to say hi!

I’m not a cyberstalker… I’m just a geek with a lunch-break.
I’m just stumbling my new Twitter ‘realm’.
Listening to ep16. I’m not a knitter, but I can spin a yarn if you push me.

Christine,
Oh dear golly. I have no idea how I missed this episode. I just listened to it yesterday! (Well, it’s been on my iPod for so long, but seems like I just have too many podcasts to listen to at the mo).
As always, GREAT episode! I totally dig the fact that I can really understand your point of view about being a geek-knitter. :-p
Can’t wait for the next episode!

I agree with Lain that it sounds like you are talking to each other more than the audience. You work well together, though, so I think you can make the two-host thing work.

Okay so ARE we going to DFW or not ’cause if we are we need to make reservations and PLANS!!! Would you PLEASE email me and let me know what we’re doing???
LOVED the knit chat! Staci is SUCH an asset to the show — not that it wasn’t fabulous before!

Hi Christine,
Enjoyed your latest podcast, but had some trouble listening to it. You were really loud and I could barely hear Staci. Enjoy the format, maybe you could center the mic between you?
Thanks for an enjoyable podcast.

You mentioned a link to someplace you could order bags made out of album covers…these sound so cool.
Is it possible to send this to me or post it? Thanks!

Hi Christine! I really enjoyed the podcast (I’m just now catching up with my backlog)! What was the song you ended with? I loved it! Thanks for combining the geek with the crafty, I feel at home!

Hi Christine,
You mentioned Twitter but I don’t see your badge. I’ve been thinking that a bunch of Knitters on Twitter might be really cool. It would be neat to see what people are working on or whatnot.
My badge is at my site.
I’ve listened to your show for a long time and really enjoy it. Also, did you ever post the recipe for beer-cheese soup anywhere?
Thanks,
WackyLisa

Hey, did you go to Fiberfest? I ended up going and spent lots of mula. I was hoping to meet you. Love your podcast. One of my favorites. Let’s me know what knitting is going on in Houston (I am from big D). Keep it coming!

I love your podcast. Hearing Staci and Christine’s voices and laughter brought a whole new dimension to their blogs. I also love how candidly you reviewed yarn and patterns. I look forward to hearing more!

I finally got a chance to listen to your podcast before the next one came out! I’m caught up, woo!
Anil does still work at Six Apart, btw. And if you ever want to talk more about communities and online knitting, you are welcome to mention the knitting group on vox: http://knitting.groups.vox.com - it’s one of the larger groups there.
I do so enjoy listening to your podcast - it’s one of the few things I do try and keep up with because it’s just so fun to “hear” you outloud after reading your life for so long
