In the span of just over a week, all sorts of things happened. I met Nancy Bush and learned how to knit Vintage Socks; an interview with her is on this show. I went to Boston and met up with Guido and Grumperina and got to knit with them. I celebrated my 2 year Knitaversary and a few days later my 1 year Podcastiversary - where I very appropriately had no voice. *rolling my eyes* All in all, it has been a great time since the last show, although I’ve done no knitting in the past week. That part hurts just a little bit.
It was amazing to me how many people participated in the Podcastiversary contest! Simply fabulous - and several people won cool prizes as a result! Please be sure to check out all of the sponsors and the great things they offer in their stores. Here is a list of all the prize sponsors and the winners; congratulations to everyone!
- A Lyra mp3 Player - won by Beth
- Scout’s Swag fingering weight yarn in a color of her choice from the gallery - won by Lain
- Brook’s Farm new Solana Yarn - won by Cindy
- Sockfish bag pattern by Kimberly - won by Kori
- Fresh Photography angora goat photo - won by Valarie
- Yarn 4 Socks skein of sock yarn, winner’s choice - won by Jennifer
- Scotts Mountain Crafts hand-forged shawl pin - won by Knitting Bandit
- SplitYarn needle case - won by Lois
- SplitYarn card cases - won by Sally and Cecilia
Thank you again for the Podcastiversary wishes from Brenda of Cast-On, Guido of It’s a Purl, Man, Faith of The Knitting Cook, David of Sticks & String, Syne of WeaveCast, and Jessica of Over the Fiber Moon. HUGE APOLOGIES to Rosemary of the CraftBorg, as I knew I was missing one and I just realized a few seconds ago whose it was! (I’m so sorry, Rosemary!) I’ll include it in the next show, because I always feel celebrations should go on all month long!
I shared a number of different comments on sock knitting, and I will have to come back later and add all the appropriate links to the show notes. My brain is fried right now, seriously fried. By the way, I did NOT record this episode while sitting in a tin can, but it sure sounds like it. Since it was my second take, I couldn’t do a third one and instead spent several hours editing it to get it to a good level. I’m still not happy about it, but sometimes you just have to roll with it.
The book that I reviewed - well, sort of - in this podcast is Knitting Vintage Socks by Nancy Bush. I will post photos of Nancy and the socks themselves in the next day or so. She truly is amazing teacher and I think everyone should have an opportunity to learn from her. If you can’t see her in person, be sure to pick up her books. The are WONDERFUL.
I also talked about how I finally gave in and knit with Sox Stix by Lantern Moon. They are smooth, short, and in my opinion? Swell! I actually like knitting with DPNs when it comes to these. My fear of breaking them is making me consider buying short Addi Turbos instead though - Nancy Bush sells them through her shop.
As always, the opening song is by The Flying Fish Sailors (who have live shows coming soon! Go see them in person if you are in the Houston area!). The closing song for this episode is King of the Rollerama by Dierdre Flint, and it makes me giggle like a 12 year old girl every time I listen to it. Mmm… Jean Nate and Jordache Jeans! Please buy their albums and support the artists that support the podcast!
Thanks again to everyone for listening and for making the past year simply fabulous! Big plans ahead for 2007, including interviews with Scout, Nancy Bush and the Yarn Harlot! Who knows what else the year has in store for us all?

Hi Christine, I just discovered podcasts, yes I know I am a little late in the game
but I love it!
Even tho I had to stop several times to go to websites to look at the tings you were talking about.
I am wondering if it is a good thing, you see I am drooling over all of Scouts yarns as we speak and I have already signed um for the Socks that Rock club, I can hear a low whining in my purse, this is my CC begging for mercy.
But anyways from now on I will be a dedicated listener and regarding the knitted socks vs. the sock yarn ratio, now this made my feel downright good, this last month I have knitted 17 pairs of socks, no fancy ones just multicolored sport weight ones but all the same this cheered my now end because you see I am expecting six kilos of sock yarn from Germany so I don’t have to be too ashamed of loosing my mind and buying everything in sight.
Warm regards from Iceland
Agusta

Hi Christine.
I’ve been listening to your podcasts for a while, and have been enjoying them. Sorry I haven’t commented before, but here I am now to say that I am a fan, and really enjoyed this episode - especially as I have recently become a sock knitter. Happy Anniversary and thanks for the effort you put into your podcasts!

What? Only TWO skeins of Anne?
You can always make a nice shawl or scarf too!

Thanks Christine, for putting Melissa and I in
