Episode 12 - Knitting In A New Year!

January 11th, 2007 · 13 Comments

A nearly music free show, I have finally accepted the fact that my desire for the perfect music makes me put off getting the show out. Since I have been holding on to an interview since December 24th, I could not possibly wait any longer to get the show out.

The big news around here? I will be having shoulder surgery in the next month or so. Yes, the fun never ends. Hopefully the burning pain in my shoulder will finally end though!

On to the various things mentioned in the show:

Charity Knitting:
The Red Scarf Project is in full swing and you can still send in your scarves! For more information, visit Orphan.org’s site and read about it at Interweave Press too. Interweave also has a free pattern for you to use designed by Ann Budd.

Other Knit News:
- Have an unfinished project that you would like to see be a part of a theater piece? Here is your chance! For more info on Kristina Wong. For submission guidelines, email: k [at] kristinasherylwong [dot] com

On the needles:
- Tonight I will finish up the Faith Jacket - found in Sally Melville’s The Knitting Experience: Book 3: Color. Much more adorable in person than in the photos; I’m knitting mine out of the Queensland Collection Kathmandu Aran. I hope to wear it tomorrow.
- The Forest Canopy shawl that I haven’t touched in over a month now is going to be frogged. US 4 is simply too small of a needle for my taste with this yarn, so I must go up a size or two.
- I have started the second front panel of the Noro Kochoran Lucy Jacket! I can only knit on it until I sneeze though. Then I must put it away.
- I cast on and finished the Argosy scarf in just 3 days. It is lovely! But damn Noro and those knots!
- I also made a scarf from Silkwood’s Contessa (thick & thin) yarn. It still needs to be photographed.
- Mike is working on a wallet from the book, “Knitting at with Balls”.
- I am participating in the Stashalong 2007. Someone hold me please while I resist the urge to buy more yarn.

Winter Holiday Notes:
- If you are in or near Lexington, Kentucky, visit the fabulous new yarn shop there, ReBelle Girls! I can not say enough good things about that shop and all of the goodies that they carry.
- Tap into your inner rebel with The AntiCraft. Renee is really nice, but I only got to meet her in passing. Zabet, meanwhile, can make you laugh until you cry. Seriously. (I’m pretty sure Renee has the same powers. I hope to see more of her next time I visit Lexington!)

Favorite Things:
- The lucky number for the “Favorite Things” contest winner was #8! Joy will be the lucky recipient of the infamous Ear Light, DPN holder, and highlighter tape. I used the Random Number Generator to “draw” the number after making a document listing every comment, including Odeo ones, in order.
- Speaking of Odeo comments - feel free to use the button over there at any time! I *love* to hear from you. The Odeo comments left for the Favorite Things contest will be included in the next show.
- My latest favorite thing? The KnitPicks Options needle set. I will probably never use my Denise needles again, and my Addi Turbos are even gathering dust. Yes, I love them that much.

Coming Up:
- How to survive without a stash - an interview with stashless knitter S t a c i.
- A visit to Koenig Farm
- More personal blogging here between episodes!

Music in this episode:
- Poke You in the Eye by the Flying Fish Sailors (Amazon)
- Schoolhouse Rock Medley by the Lager Rhythms, from the Strange Charm CD

I’ll listen to the show soon! Hope all’s well for your shoulder surgery!

And I’m considering about joining the Stash-Along 2007, too.

BTW, what’s become of that drawing from the show second to last?….actually I should just listen to this show first. :-p

Hey, thanks for the shout out, Christine. I loved the show. And good luck with Forest Canopy redux. ;)

I am intrigued that you favor them over the Addis. I too am a hard core Addi-er. I have heard tell that the tips are really pointy, helping a tight knitter like me. Maybe I will have to give them a try.

Have you tried any of their reg circs, like sock size? Curious if the points are still sharp as you go down to like Us 0, 1, & 2.

    Great show, as always!! :-)

When I tried to listen… it only was 17 minutes or so long… then it just stopped. I had downloaded it.

hm… everyone else listened… maybe it was a problem on my side.

    Maybe I’ll go try again.

Where did you get the pattern for the Lucy jacket? I bought some Kochoran at Stitches 2 years ago and still haven’t knit it up. The picture looks nice.
Sorry to hear about your shoulder. Not a nice way to start the new year.

I don’t know if you’ve found some yarn for your Red Scarf yet, but I wanted to recommend Mission Falls 1824 Wool. It gets nice and soft once it’s washed, it comes in tons of great colors, and it’s superwash. I know Mary Charles Yarn Co. carries it (they’re just north of Rice University).

Hi! They same problem here, both through iTunes, mp3 and trying to download directly from you site your podcast ends midsentence after approximately 23 minutes. Hope you will be able to fix this as I really want to hear the rest of your adventures with yarn. Wishing you a good knitting and podcasting year!

I just finished listening to your podcast and I thought it was great fun. I LOVED the schoolhouse rock song. It completely cracked me up. I’d like to send it to my brother who is a high school choral music teacher at an American school in Venezuela. He will get a huge kick out of it. We used to love schoolhouse rock as kids.

Hey… I have knit the card holder from the knitting with balls book and it worked out pretty well.

anyhow, glad to hear the new show for the new year. Keep up the knitting fun, would love to hear about Mikes knitting issues. :)

Best wishes for the surgery! I hope your recovery is a speedy one :)

Gotta love those Noro knots! Sometimes, what I do, is cut the skein apart, into colorways, so if I get jammed up like that, I just switch to a different part of the skein.

Ouch about the shoulder - hope that works out. Mike might definitely need to lend a helping hand in the podcasting business!

Great episode!!! Even sans music! :-)

BTW, yes, I might ask you to get me those knit-picks needles. I had been coveting them on their homepage ever since I saw their ad in VK back in summer….but I don’t have the money right now for that…so it’ll have to wait.

I’m still considering about the Stash-Along 2007, but I’m not sure if I’m that strong.
