Episode 11 - Road Trip!

December 18th, 2006 · 22 Comments

Oh goodness. I’m tired. Exhausted. Ready for vacation. And this episode? It shows. Sorry about that - but I also didn’t want to put it off because that would mean that I wasn’t even close to doing weekly episodes. Oh, who am I kidding - this one is 3 days late. But it is all wrapped up with a sparkly bow on top, so hopefully no one will notice. The lesson? Don’t podcast when you can only think about the things you need to pack.

I rambled through the opening. And the rest of the show. I think I have all of the links ready though for the show notes. Here are some of the things you might be looking for:

- Faith Jacket - found in Sally Melville’s The Knitting Experience: Book 3: Color. Much more adorable in person than in the photos; I’m knitting mine out of the Queensland Collection Kathmandu Aran.
- The Forest Canopy shawl that I haven’t touched in two weeks is being knit out of Schaeffer Anne.
- I still plan to make 3 pairs of Fetchings in Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran.
- Also going in the car for the road trip, the Mountain Colors Bearfoot socks for my mother.
- I have finished the first front panel of the Noro Kochoran Lucy Jacket! At last!
- Ariann is lovely and swoonworthy - now I just need to lose a few inches so it will fit. I’m ok with that plan. Who is going to join me?
- The Kid & Ewe and Llamas Too fiber festival is held in Boerne, TX in November of each year. We had such a good time - I am definitely hoping to be back next year!

- We had a large potluck dinner, and we gave out door prizes from the following:
Discount Yarn Sale - Hill Country Sock yarn!
Fancy Stitcher - embroidered sock knitting bag
Hockett Would Work - handcarved drop spindle
Split Yarns - card holders, needle case
Brooks Farm - yummy Riata yarn!

- Katy Blogless, Amy & Kelly said, “No wheel!” (To avoid carrying one back to Houston on their lap.) Jeanne and Staci were kind enough to offer to let me send it back to Houston with them. I resisted the temptation.
- Other vendors of note: Heritage Arts, Jojoland and Perfect Buttons
- Personal highlight? Meeting Michael of WormSpit.com!

Don’t forget to enter the contest on Episode 10! It isn’t too late!

Music in this episode (some from the PodSafe Music Network):
- Poke You in the Eye by the Flying Fish Sailors (Amazon)
- When I’m 25 or 64 by Jonathan Coulton
- American Woman by the Flying Fish Sailors, from the Loch Ness Monster CD
- Love the One You’re With by the Lager Rhythms, from the Band Gap CD
- I Drank Too Much at the Office Christmas Party by The Alice Project

(File updated on 12/18, since I left a song out!)

I just went back to WW 2 weeks before Thanksgiving. holidays can be kind of hard but you can just get back on program….Good for you! I knit during my meetings, too! Keep us undated! Good luck!

I couldn’t find any other way to contact you, so I thought I’d leave a comment here. I’ve got the promo for you…wanna make one for me? Where shall I send it? I tried using your podcast@pointsticks.org email, but that was the one that was returned. Do you have another email address? Hope I’ll hear from ya soon….great podcasting and happy knitting! Gina : )

Hello fellow WW - I’ve been on program for 9 months and have dropped 32lbs…Holidays are tough, but don’t put so much pressure on it. Try to make the right choices and don’t eat till your stuffed.

Enjoyed the podcast this week and I’m thrilled that your doing one each week. It allows me to take a break and drift away if only for a short time. I read your pink cookie blog too, so if you make them into one, I wont mind:)

I did want to list my favorite knitting things:

    1. Moleskine graph book. I design patterns, log all my info about each current project and it’s got this great band that holds it all tight just incase I’ve got loose slips of paper.

    2. Make-up Bag turn into knitting supplies bag. I found this great suede zippered bag at Walmart (cheep - like $3) that I toss all my goodies in. I’d be lost without it.

    3. Zip-lock gallon freezer bags. I toss current project and yarn in them. I’m all about saving money. Plus, with weird weather in Chicago, you never know when it will snow, rain or gosh perhaps someone will spill coffee on your knitting–opps that was me:)

Enjoyed your podcast. I wish that I could knit while driving in a car but it makes me carsick. :( Best of luck with WW - I’m a big believer in it. Lost 40 pounds on it this year. I used WW Online because I wasn’t sure that I would be consistent going to meetings and I loved it. You can even download points info and calculators to your PDA. Costco has been selling the most recent WW cookbook - it’s great. Have a great holiday!

    Christine,

I got your message and tried writing you back, but I’m not sure if it ever got to you. I’m overseas right now enjoying the holidays (NOT). Feel free to write back if you like and send me an address and I’ll fill you in on the last 15 years.

I’m really late commenting. The holidays had me so busy I had fallen WAY behind with all the podcasts I follow. My fantastic husband gave me an MP3 player for Christmas so I’m FINALLY able to listen while I’m mobile and am (slowly) getting caught back up. The podcast was great! I loved the music, good choices all. Best wishes with WW. My weight has been creeping up the last few months and I’m getting serious about losing it too.

Thanks for taking the time and effort to podcast. I look forward to hearing more from you soon. Take care and hope you had a great holiday!

    Hey there!

With some Internet sleuthing, I found Pointy Sticks and saw that you’ve played some JoCo on the podcast.

I’m with a band called Beatnik Turtle and they’re a lot like Jonathan Coulton music-wise. They’re doing a “Thing A Day” like him called “TheSongOfTheDay” which they started back in January. They have kinda off-the-wall, catchy songs like “Star Wars”, “I’m Sorry The Warp Gate Sucked Away Our Son”, “What We Need Is Some Interns In Here”.

Anyway, every song is all podsafe and I was thinking with over 200+ songs, if you’re looking for some fun music for a future podcast, to give us a shout - either by writing me or writing the us at www.TheSongOfTheDay.com

    Thanks!

    Matt

    There was this guy see.
He wasn’t very bright and he reached his adult life without ever having learned “the facts”.
Somehow, it gets to be his wedding day.
While he is walking down the isle, his father tugs his sleeve and says,

“Son, when you get to the hotel room…Call me”

Hours later he gets to the hotel room with his beautiful blushing bride and he calls his father,

“Dad, we are the hotel, what do I do?”

“O.K. Son, listen up, take off your clothes and get in the bed, then she should take off her clothes and get in the bed, if not help her. Then either way, ah, call me”

    A few moments later…

“Dad we took off our clothes and we are in the bed, what do I do?”

O.K. Son, listen up. Move real close to her and she should move real close to you, and then… Ah, call me.”

    A few moments later…

“DAD! WE TOOK OFF OUR CLOTHES, GOT IN THE BED AND MOVED REAL CLOSE, WHAT DO I DO???”

“O.K. Son, Listen up, this is the most important part. Stick the long part of your body into the place where she goes to the bathroom.”

    A few moments later…

“Dad, I’ve got my foot in the toilet, what do I do?”
