Since I know you love comments, here is mine!

I had to think about this for a while, since there are so many, but mine would have to bea small tackle box I keep my stuff in. It is small enough to fit in my bag, but long enough that it will hold dpns and a pen. You can get them pretty cheap in the fishing section at Walmart and they keep everything seperated. Mine holds spare dpns, super glue, stitch markers, sissors, post-its, pen and more!

Good luck on your finals!! Off to study for mine on Tuesday…

Welcome back to the world of podcasting. Today’s episode was great. I sent you my favorite thing via ODEO. That was the first time I used that ever. Cool!

  • 4 Jenny // Dec 7, 2006 at 4:59 pm

By the way - I also love Brooks Farm Yarn. I have several balls languishing in the stash waiting for me to find the perfect thing to knit. And that yarn and company is also a FAVORITE thing of mine. So there’s another for you!

  • 5 Patricia Harper // Dec 7, 2006 at 9:03 pm

My favorite thing is actually rather new to me. It’s a clear plastic tote bag, big enough to hold a couple of projects, my wallet, keys, and cell phone. No need to carry a purse! And since it’s clear, I can immediately tell what I’ve left out!

  • 6 Manda // Dec 7, 2006 at 10:12 pm

My favorite knitting thing is my Sock Bug that I got on Etsy. :) It’s a cute little bag for holding socks, and it has a pocket to hold some notions (like, a Chibi, a tape measure, yarn cutter, etc.). they’re really cool. :) http://sockdiva.etsy.com is where you can get them. :)

I’ve been looking for highlighter tape, but I can’t find it anywhere… where did you get yours? :)

glad to hear you again!! :)

  • 7 Lizzy // Dec 8, 2006 at 8:07 am

Hi, my favorite thing is the chunky shetland handspun that I scored a while ago and knit up into some handwarmers. It smells divine!

[…] But first, a message from our sponsor… (Ok, no sponsor, but I’ve always wanted to say that.) Christine of the Pointy Sticks podcast is having a contest. So far all I know about it is that the details are in the podcast and the deadline is December 21. […]

I love listening to your podcast. Thanks for doing it.
My favorite things are…… 1)Paperclips, I carry about 4 of them in my knitting bag. They work great for stitch holders, stitch markers, picking up a dropped stitch, or a as a small cable needle. 2) A small crotchet hook, I use it for weaving in the ends of the yarn, as a cable needle, and fixing mistakes (not that I make any). I have alot of other little things in my bag, but those 2 are the ones I always have with.

  • 10 Julia // Dec 8, 2006 at 2:12 pm

Yay, I just finished listening to the podcast. My favorite knitterly things are:
my metal gauge rule. The one with the sizer for needles - I have so many needles that aren’t marked (not just dpns) that I would be lost without it.
my Gingher embroidery scissors - I treated myself many years ago to a decent pair of scissors for cutting threads and yarn. They are still super sharp.
Last but not least, my chibi. I love reaching for my chibi because it means the project is nearly done!

I have been knitting since I was 18 and am now older than dirt. I just found out a short time ago that there is a site on ebay that sells mill ends of cashmere yarn. I am now addicted to it and have filled my stash with it. It’s called Colourmart cashmere and I will not go anywhere without a cone of it. I joine the yahoo group and have learned all about it. It is really wonderful and the prices are so low. I got 4 cones of fingering weight and have made a sweater for myself, a scarf, and a pair of socks, and I still have some of it left. So Colourmart cashmere is my favorite knitting thing.

  • 12 Janet // Dec 9, 2006 at 1:22 pm

My favorite thing right now is a great electronic knitting tool that I have on my Palm Treo 650 — Countable — indispensable!

  • 13 Anla // Dec 9, 2006 at 9:24 pm

My three favorite things in my knitting kit are: a stich marker( kinda like a little ticker wheel that moves as a counter for your stitches), rubber stopper holders(much like what you described on the show except they don’t have a rubber band holding the two together),and my Addi turbos. I want a pair in each size! They are my ultimate favorite needles.

  • 14 Laura // Dec 11, 2006 at 11:00 am

That’s a tough question, but here’s my 3 favorite things as of right now:

Altoids - they are great to eat and then store stitch markers, needles, etc. in the tin (the mini ones are really great if you can find them)

I love those tiny rubber stitch markers for sock knitting but wish they made them in neon colors.

I love my Kacha Kacha counter (I think that’s what it’s called). I just got it recently and there is nothing like the click it makes when you advance a row!

Love your show, Christine, and really glad you’ll be on every week this month.

  • 15 Kenyetta // Dec 11, 2006 at 3:28 pm

My favorite knitting thing is the internet. I learned from the internet, get most of my patterns and help from the internet as well. I have met so many knitting friends that I may not have otherwise. I would be lost without it.

  • 16 Lisa L // Dec 11, 2006 at 7:43 pm

My favorite knitting thing is a pair of scissors - they are a very special Andre Tisserand pair from France. The handles are in the shape of a rabbit and they were a Christmas gift from my Dad many years ago!

  • 17 toshkasol // Dec 11, 2006 at 9:20 pm

My favorite things….well, your podcast for one. I have to agree with the internet as being a favorite. I too, could not live without the internet because of the blogs, online magazines, podcasts and online shopping for yarn. It helps you to connect to knitters all around the world…what could be better?
My other favorite would be my Denise interchangeable needles. I use them for almost everything I knit. I cannot imagine knitting without them.
Looking forward to your next podcast!
    Happy Holidays!

  • 18 Eileen // Dec 12, 2006 at 9:29 am

One of my favorite things is a miner type light I use for knitting in the car at night. You can find one at Radio Shack. My husband uses it when he bikes after dark, but I like my idea better!

  • 19 Christine // Dec 12, 2006 at 10:32 am

One of my favorite things is my interchangable needle set– I love always having the right size when I need to go up or down a size after swatching. My other favorite is the clear plastic gallon zip closure bags. I cut a corner in the tip for the yarn while I’m knitting, and have a place to keep needles, yarn, and pattern when I’m not.

  • 20 Angie // Dec 12, 2006 at 1:54 pm

I thought I was clever - but Kenyetta had the same idea. My favorite knitting item is the internet. If I didn’t have the knitting community that I do through blogs and podcasts, I would be one lonely knitter. I also appreciate the free patterns so much!
Thanks for your hard work on the podcast. I feel so cheap commenting when you have a contest - but how can I not enter when there are such terrific prizes in store?!

  • 21 Jeanne // Dec 12, 2006 at 7:02 pm

Great podcast - glad you came back! I really enjoyed this weeks, and look forward to the next one. OK, I feel sort of bad since I don’t think I’ve commented before, but I had to! One of my favorite knitting things is the DPN holder I bought from the Workworks(http://www.woolworksltd.com/). I haven’t had any nasty DPN accidents since I started using it for my commute knitting.

  • 22 Tara // Dec 13, 2006 at 12:34 am

I just wanted you to know I have declared a Jihad on the laptop.

It just gave me a nasty zap of electricity when I tried to adjust the screen. Bastard.

I am so glad that you are back podcasting! I’ve missed hearing your thoughts and knitting and music! It sounds like you’ve been doing a lot of thinking about your life ahead, especially as it is defined within your family. Good luck to you! Hmmm. Knitting Need-its: my katcha counter, skinny hair-rubberbands to use as markers, and my computer with knitting podcasts and blogs and patterns!

  • 24 Sara in WI // Dec 13, 2006 at 1:44 am

Oh, I forgot to say that I think that you should try to wash any new yarn that you plan on washing after the knitting, at least the first time that you knit with it. However, that said, what you do to 1 skein, you should do the same with the others in the project. Maybe just starting with a small item and 1 ball of yarn as a first project with that yarn that is new to you. (Making sense here?) As a spinner, we always set the twist by gently washing after plying. And this way, also, we know that when we are knitting the product will feel/look/wear like it is as we go along with the knitting! Whatever…I’m tired and messing up my words. Write with any more questions, Christine.

  • 25 Elemmaciltur // Dec 13, 2006 at 6:39 am

Okay, it took me quite a while to come up with three of my favourite things about knitting/while knitting, or whatever the question was supposed to be.

Since my knitting age had just recently reached one year, I don’t have that kind of experience other knitters have. Thus, one of my most favourite thing about knitting is the discovery. When I find a pattern that jumps at me and I think to myself: “Oooooooh, I want to try and knit that”. Not to mention the discovery of yarns: Gorgeous, luscious, luxurious, beautiful, yummy yarns!!!! Also the discovery that people finds it sooooo fascinating that a guy knits…an Asian guy at that, and the fact that I come from an Asian country that has absolutely nothing to do with the culture of knitting at all. And lastly here, the discovery that my family was supportive and enthusiastic about my new hobby (I thought they’d condemned me for taking up such a “girly activity” - NOT my words or view, just to set the record before I start getting shouts).

Secondly, the knitting podcasts (or podcasts in general). They are almost always the ideal company when knitting, no matter where I am (apart from at the SnB). At home, I’d just listen on my laptop or connect my iPod to my stereo. Otherwise when I’m knitting in the tube/subway/underground/U-Bahn (whatever you like) or generally when I’m KIPing (in public), I almost always have my iPod on….apart this past week, coz I had an ear infection. *meh*

Lastly, the favourite thing that I find just as amazing is the knit-o-blog-o-sphere and finding new (internet and real) friends through knitting….and that includes you, Christine! :-)

BTW, I still haven’t received the Lion Brand yarn yet. Have you sent them off or are you still caught up? (No rush here, I just want to make sure that it wasn’t lost in the mail or something like that)

BTW2, when are you going to show us your hubby’s knitting?

  • 26 Britt // Dec 13, 2006 at 1:41 pm

Hey, I have followed your advice and found an ear light. They have them at Bed Bath and Beyond and I had a coupon so it was only 8 bucks!
    Favorite things:
I love my row counter, sounds silly but beforeI got it i frogged every project at least twice because I would loose count and I am not good at recognizing what the heck I have just done. My other favorite thing is getting some awesome looks when I knit on the T. Here in boston people are cold and won’t actually say anything to you, but that doesn’t stop them from looking at you like you have three heads. The last thing I should mention is my set of a zillion, not so expensive or nice needles. I love knitting, but as a poor college student I had to find some cheap tools and I found a box of a gazillion (give or take 2) needles in all sizes, materials and brands. I bought it and i love that I have duplicates because I can teach people to knit and let them keep the needles.

  • 27 Chris // Dec 13, 2006 at 3:10 pm

My digital scale for weighing yarn.
My ReadUpon bookstand for reading books while I knit. (Tragically no longer available.)
My very cool circular needle case.
All the cool bags people have sewn for me!
Rubber ring markers (white, black, lime, and grape).
    Um… that’s all I can think of right now…

  • 28 Iann // Dec 13, 2006 at 4:37 pm

    Hey,

I just listened to this podcast! I love it. I’m always glad to hear people in Texas podcasting. I don’t think there are as many outlets in Texas for knitters. Or maybe I have yet to find them. Anyway, my favorite thing is the Hill Country Weavers yarn store in Austin, TX. I know that is broad but for a new knitter it’s a wonderland of inspritation and such nice people to help me when it seems I’m beyond help. Thanks for podcasting!

  • 29 Zarah // Dec 13, 2006 at 7:28 pm

I’m so glad your podcast is back! My favorite knitting thing is my little pair of children’s round-point scissors that I keep in my “knitting notions pouch” - they’re plenty sharp but no stabbing when you reach into the knitting bag!

  • 30 Cheryl // Dec 14, 2006 at 4:15 am

I love your podcast. I listen to it while I knit. I live in Corpus Christi and alot people ask me why would I want to knit. I love it. Its relaxing. My favorite knitting things are: sharpie retractable hightlighters, ziploc gallon bags, the internet(I’m so original… lol), multicolored binder rings…..

  • 31 Stitchy Fingers // Dec 14, 2006 at 10:51 am

My favourite knitting thing is a sturdy knitting container that I received from my mother in the 70’s and brought overseas with me in my suitcase! I don’t use it anymore for knitting needles but it holds balls of yarn on the bottom (that really don’t belong there) with another container on top where I have my needle gauge ruler, scissors, pincushion, etc. It reminds me of my mother.

  • 32 eve // Dec 14, 2006 at 10:48 pm

Love your podcast! I’d have to say that my 3 favorite things in my knitting bag are 1. tape measure 2. stitch markers and 3. circular needles (I know that’s very broad, but I love knitting on circs!)

  • 33 Diane // Dec 15, 2006 at 12:27 pm

Glad to hear that you’ll be having weekly podcasts for a while, because one of my 3 favorite things is listening to knitting podcasts. They are both inspiring (I never would have knit socks before) and enabling (the discovery of hand dyed yarn has negatively impacted my bank account!). My other favorites are my Knit Picks circular and DPN’s - I never thought that I would like metal, but these points are super sharp and have made knitting mohair and sock yarn much easier. Third item is my teeny tiny crochet hook which is great for picking up the multitude of dropped stitches that I have! (I’m still pretty much a novice!) Love your podcast1

  • 34 caro // Dec 15, 2006 at 1:35 pm

I’m such a slacker. I listened to the podcast the morning that it went up, but I’ve been lazy about putting together my list. My 3 things:
    1. 12mm split rings for stitch markers. (Jewelry section of the craft store, 36 for $1.
    2. Half-size clipboard for pattern holding. Works perfectly when knitting from a chart when you’re on the bus.
    3. Hardcover travel size DPN case (one of the ones I make) with a pencil, extra needles, crochet hook and cable needle all tucked in.

  • 35 BusyHSmom // Jan 9, 2007 at 3:14 pm

Shucks! I just found your podcasts and, I am sure that the contest is over and done by now. But just in case you got waaaaaaay behind…;-P I would have to say that currently, my current favorite knitting thing is my local yarn store. You see, until recently, I had to make do with places like Michael’s and WalMart…not much selection. But now a small independent shop has opened in my area with owners who spin and dye their own yarn and are also offering fibers I could only order on the internet. Woo! Hoo! It is so nice to go somewhere and be waited on by folks who understand my addiction and approve of it.

Another of my favorites is my ever-increasing knitting book collection. I admit, I am as addicted to good books about knitting as I am to the yarn, the paraphenalia, and the actual knitting.
