In this episode I have even fewer notes, I complain less about the weather, Mike is the DJ, I knit, he knits, I find Yarntopia, we travel the Inca Road, and we are all sexy knitters. I am still recording on the laptop, but I didn’t really edit this episode at all.
It is full of “uhm” and “so…” and there is even a popped “p” or two (sorry about that), but once again I think it is the best show yet. Let me know what you think.
Featured on this show:
- The Flying Fish Sailors poke you in the eye.

The Jaywalker socks are finally done, along with my latest Sophie bag and one slipper. For the entire month of April, I have commited to use what I have already in my stash.
- Mike is about to knit Satchel from Knitty. He actually got to take yarn from my stash for it. I knew it would happen.
- I got to meet Amy, and she allowed me into Yarntopia! You really should come and see the store! (This segment sounds different because the interview recorded with the iTrip and my iPod.)

iTunes didn’t find the new episode, so I downloaded it from here. FYI.

I really don’t get iTunes somedays. It is showing up just fine for Mike on his laptop, but it isn’t showing up on mine. Hmmm… I’m looking into it!

Hi Christine! This time iTunes did found the show, so I’ve listened right away while knitting a little. I really enjoyed it! A pity Houston is so off-course from Portugal. I’d love to meet you for lunch!

Christine (great name, by the way),
I really enjoyed today’s show. I wish I could go to the new yarn store opening because it sounds like it would be a ton of fun but it’s a long drive from Northern California!

Hey Christine! How sweet of you to mention me at the beginning of your show. And then I was surprised to hear myself at the end of the show. I completely forgot that you had that segment from me (kind of like you did at the beginning right after I sent it). I blame my terrible memory on being fourty-something now.
I really enjoyed the laid back format of your show and didn’t hear any “ums” at all! You are good girl!
Oh, and you’re a terrible influence, as I immediately jumped right on over and ordered myself a pair of those clear clogs — I about died at your description of the terrarium boots but am hoping the clogs will breathe better.
I don’t know that I’ll make it up to see you this Saturday for Yarntopia’s grand opening. As you know it’s been pretty crazy around here and I’m actually looking forward to getting outside and enjoying the weather (watch it rain now!) by working in the yard a bit. I know I’ll see you soon though!
Happy Birthday Mike — Maybe Christine will buy you some Red Heart Yarn! Great music too.
Keep up the great work y’all!

Christine, I have really enjoyed listening to your podcasts. I have family in Houston and she’s a knitter too, so next I visit we’re going to Yarntopia!
Also, I would like to get the word out about a new forum for knitters. It’s www.knittersforum.com. Right now it is very small but it is so easy to use and would be a great place for chatting about knitting or finding resources.

So, I was walking to one of my LYS’s today, Loop, listening to your current episode, and as I walked in the door, you were talking about the Half Pi Shawl. Grace, who designed the Half Pi, now works at Loop, and I was like, Hey Grace, this woman in Texas, Christine, is talking about your shawl, and the other woman in the shop, Laura, mentioned that you had called the morning about their Friday event - I won’t put it in the comment, since it sounds like you might be getting a gift . . . but Grace was just delighted to be almost a podstar!
Great cast!

Hey, I’m glad you’re back. Great podcast.
I really think that backwards knitting will help you make progress on your Lady E. Remember that it is awkward at first, but if you stick with it your hands will get more comfortable and you’ll love it. I’m still cranking away on my Lady E. — maybe 2 or 3 more balls to go…

Loved episode 4. You’re doing a great job - I listen to you while I run, you really help take my mind off the pain! Keep them coming.

I’ve “finally” caught up on all your episodes today! Yours was the first knit podcast I listened to when I got my new iPod last month. I definitely agree about your comments on doing something (photos, knitting, etc.) for a price instead of for the love of it. As much as I enjoy my arts I don’t think I would want to do them for my livelihood.

Really enjoyed the podcast! I’m going to try, try, try to not buy new stuff until I make somewhat of a dent in my works-in-progress pile. I have some stash, but usually I buy the yarn for a specific project and then it doesn’t work and then I have stash! That’s how it happens. But listening to the podcasts while knitting, walking, cleaning helps the time go by most enjoyably!

There was recently a slight row on an email list I’m on about using the word Nazi. A couple of people were a bit offended at the harshness of the word… the rest of us were thinking of Seinfeld!

Christine,
Another great episode…I was listening to it at the gym this morning, thus I can’t really recall the content anymore…but I know that it’s lovely like everytime.
When are we going to get a glimpse into Mike’s knitting?

I heard over at Brenda’s podcast that you are going to put together the network for fiber arts podcasts! Very cool! And thanks so much for playing my promo in your show!

Christine,
Thank you very much for your thoughts and prayers. It was very heartwarming to hear as I listened to your recent podcast. It was very kind of you and I really appreciate it. Take care and keep up the great work with your podcasts.

Hi Christine!
I loved this episode! I could totally imagine you dancing, which is weird since I have absolutely no idea what you look like!!!
Thanks for helping me with my little entry into the podcasting world! Have a great day, and remember to put down your knitting when you start “feeling the funk” again!
Lots of knitterly love,
Emms

Just wanted to say that I love your podcast! Keep up the good work. Happy Birthday (a little late) to Mike, your husband has to be fabulous since he and I share the same birthday!

Hi Cristine,
Love your show. I always get the title song Poke You in the Eye stuck in my head. Catchy!
I am going to go join the Sexy Knitters Club now.

Hi Christine,
You may want to let listeners know, when you mention TV show times (eg. on the Oxygen Network) which time zone time you are referring to. I think I tuned in 1 hour late for the show on Oxygen because I live in the EST zone and not the central time zone - either that or they changed their schedule.

20 Christine // Apr 16, 2006 at 9:03 pm
Hm, Kate … that is odd, since I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned a TV show on my podcast other than a passing reference like the one made to “Ellen” - and I didn’t say any showtime for thst one.
21 Ginny // Apr 18, 2006 at 8:17 pm
That “Poke You In the Eye” song has been stuck in my head all week!! Aaauuuughhh! (Just kidding)
I’m glad to have a new song to add to the continual soundtrack running in my head. It beats the Dora the Explorer theme.
Thanks for the podcasts! You’re edging up on Brenda as one of my faves. It is so appreciated!
22 Juliana // Apr 18, 2006 at 8:56 pm
I should just ditto Ginny up there, right down to the Dora reference, lol! That is creepy!
I’ve subscribed to your podcast for a while now but it wasn’t until I was home sick today that I got a chance to listen to them. I just love it, you rock!! I have a lot of friends in/from Houston so your accent is so familiar and comforting (I’m from CA).
I wish I could visit your LYS’s. I don’t really have one that feels like “home” you know?
Anyway keep up the great work! Can’t wait for the next episode

Christine
I’ve just recently found you and have been catching up on all your podcasts this week from your inception which I have loved! I have a long train ride to work (3 hours round trip a day) and have lots of time for listening to podcasts about knitting. I was wondering if you could possibly share some of your hand exercises so that we can stay strong and keep our hand heath up for many more years of knitting.
Also I just finally finished up my college degree. I had gone to college in the late 80s as you did and I never finished. It’s been an extraordinary accomplishment so keep it up. “Do good, study hard” as my husband would say to me every day from my first day to my last. It took me 3 years to complete my degree but oh what a feeling.
Thanks, and keep on podcasting!
Nancy

Yes! It WAS the best ever…and those little um’s?…they sound oh so normal and quite refreshing! RE: the knitting n—i, she was (as my husband often says) a practicing member of the “sales prevention team!” Doesn’t it just boggle the mind? Having worked in my local Tampa LYS I can tell you that we bent over backwards to en-courage not dis-courage new, or any, knitters. Yes, we may have suggested something might be a bit advanced for someone but we would never had said it can’t be done, nor tried to stop anyone from making an informed or just plain enthusiastic decision. As I used to say: other yarn shops are not our competition, the internet is. Every LYS had better be giving fabulous customer service because the internet is only a keystroke away!

Hi Christine,
Thanks so much for your podcast! I listened to Ep 4 today, sitting in my car, knitting a simple scarf while waiting for one of my children. I live in Australia in a sub-tropical zone and fully understand just what heat does to knitting! Loved Mike’s DJ work (and happy birthday) and I really enjoy your stories.
Pod On!

Hello Christine, I just found your podcast and listened to it. I think you are brilliant! I too was a huge Seinfeld fan, and your “knitting nazi” comment brought to mind one I know as well. I wonder if Seinfeld got as much flack - personally, I think it is a more than appropriate comment for some people out there. Thanks for bringing a smile to my day. I look forward to more episodes.

Christine - I really enjoy your show and LOVE the poke you in the eye song. I played it for my kids (7 and 4) and made them sing along to it but of course they rolled their eyes at me - but then later I heard them singing it in their room! I can relate to your comments about the nasty old LYS owners - it is so weird! We have 4 amazing yarn shops here in SF - in two they are extremely helpful, in one, its is like I’m invisible and in the last they are overtly hostile. WHATEVER! anyway, keep up the great work and I can’t wait for your next show.

really enjoy listening to your podcast - i am a bit behind and almost caught up - almost! love the choice of music on this one - just wanted to say that as a jew, i do NOT find “knitting nazi” offensive - you have got be kidding me!so many knitters i know say that about old school knitters who want to tell you that you are “knitting wrong- there is many a knitter that i have called that as well as a few sewing nazi’s that i have worked for - Love the theme song - “poke you in the eye” - have you seen that tshirt “i have two sticks, you have two eye”?
look forward to more of your podcast - the first one wasa bit rough - but the more free form style is so much more natural - like it alot
